Q & A About treatment intensives at the Midwest Center for Transformational Change PLC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
undefined NaN, NaNatNaN:NaN PM
Why would I want to travel to Cedar Rapids for a treatment intensive experience? Not every person would want to or be able to travel to another city or state for intensive treatment. However, it's worth considering for a number of reasons. (1) You might be able to receive an effective and desired therapeutic intervention that is unavailable to you in your current location. (2) Putting aside time to focus on your mental health and healing can increase the likelihood of meeting your goals, particularly when you place yourself in a new and supportive environment. (3) Cedar Rapids is a mid-sized city that has all the modern conveniences at a rate more affordable than major metropolitan areas. This affordability ranges from the comparatively (to HCOL urban centers) lower cost of individual treatment sessions, to the presidential suite at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center with its large jacuzzi hot tub, which has been known in off-peak times (in 2024) to be available for less than $200USD per night.
Will my health insurance cover a treatment intensive? Many health insurances will cover at least a portion of a treatment intensive. The practitioner would be pleased to discuss your situation with you in a free consultation.
How many appointments would I have during a treatment intensive? Your appointments would be worked into the practitioner's regular schedule. Extended time appointments and multiple appointments per day are possible and have their advantages, but are generally not covered by insurance. The practitioner will design a treatment plan with you in advance of your intensive, to maximize the effectiveness of the experience, and meet your personal needs.
What if I have trouble with symptoms when I return home after the intensive? All clients traveling from other states in the US will receive a plan for accessing appropriate and supportive services in their own area of residence.
I already have a therapist that I work with in my home state. Is that okay? Absolutely. In fact, it is considered optimal. If it fits for you, consult with your current therapist about whether an intensive treatment might make your work with them even more effective.
Are there any extra charges? If extra time is required of the practitioner to modify the treatment plan together with you, or you would like the provider to consult by phone with your therapist or prescriber, those services are billed at the practitioner's current hourly rate (in quarter hour increments) and would not be billable to insurance. It would be a rare circumstance that this would take more than one hour total. This planning work could not be considered receiving mental health treatment, as it would take place prior to receiving treatment, while the client is out of state. You would be considered a client of the practice only during your in-state residency period, unless you reside in Illinois, where the practitioner is also licensed.
